The Field Trip

Today, the professor of Play and Child Development invites the classmates to visit her Georgian house, built around 1780. It’s not just a historical site but also elegantly decorated. The house is so old that there are wooden nails in the beams. The previous owner made a lot of effort to maintain the graceful structure. Not just that, the previous owner’s friend Jeff Weaver, a local artist, painted a trompe l’oeil mural for the staircase.

After having visited the professor’s house, we went to the port of Gloucester, the site of the movie The Perfect Storm. It is a lovely fishing village with a small whale museum. The staff there was very enthusiastic about introducing the characteristics of different kinds of whales. She even let us experience three kinds of baleens with hand. To speak the truth, I had never seen any baleen before. It was quite astonishing to feel the texture of the baleens.

Then, we headed to Rockport, a port composed of rocks. There are many lovely stores. A gallery of modern art caught my eyes. Interesting works are exhibited there. I even bought a tiny mental sculpture for I really want to have it displayed in my room. In the afternoon, we were all hungry and dined in a seafood store served fresh lobsters. The meat of the lobsters is superb. We all enjoy the delicious meal a lot.

Thanks to our dear professor, I really had a wonderful day.
